Warm Lemonade
The sound of a kettle screamed, as hot steam escaped through its spout. A blonde man got up from his computer, its blue and white glow softened the rooms lonely atmosphere. As he walked, the long material meant for a left arm, hung lightly. His eye’s, somewhat of a confused child’s, who lost a memory of long ago.
Yukimi sighed. Whatever it was, it was dragging him down. He turned the stove down with his remaining arm, and flipped the spout open so the kettle would shut up. It gave him a headache, to hear something like that in his apartment. He opened the cupboard door, ready to grab a mug, but a soft mew distracted him.
“Ah, Yotie. What are you doing up?” Yukimi looked down at a small kitten.
It looked up at him with his big golden eyes. “Mew.”
Yukimi rested his hand on his neck, slightly glancing over at the clock. He narrowed his eyes and a frown formed.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, past 6 already.” He gave a tired sigh. “So much for sleeping.”
Yotie walked over to Yukimi, rolling onto his feet for attention and warmth. Yukimi smiled at the black fluff ball.
“Yeah, yeah, let me get something to drink, then I’ll hit the bed.”
The blonde turned his attention back to the cupboard, grabbing a mug, while in the process, a bowl as well.
“Want to drink with me? It might be a little bitter for you, and maybe to hot though?”
Yukimi poured the liquid of the drink into the mug, and for the bowl as well.
The kitten looked up at him playfully, as it followed his movements to the fridge and back.
Yukimi had grabbed two ice cubes from the freezer, and placed it in the bowl, warming the drink down. He grabbed it, and sat it on the ground next to Yotie. He then grabbed his mug and sat down next to the bowl and the curious kitten.
His green eye’s fell upon the kittens movements.
“Its hot lemonade. It clams me down, relaxes me even.” A memory of his mother past by.
A small smiled graced his lips, as he watched the kitten drink slowly out of the bowl.
Yukimi took a sip as well. He inhaled the warm aroma, as the warm liquid soothed his body. He closed his eye’s, trying to catch a memory.
“It makes me feel like I can always come home.”
He opened them again, as he took another drink. He set his mug down, reaching his hand out to pet the cat. The kitten liked the idea, and moved towards him, purring happily.
Yukimi picked him up, resting the cat him his arm. The small thing was falling asleep. The man gave a yawn and stood up.
“Time for bed I guess.”
Yukimi looked back up into the open cupboard, and saw a cup he hadn’t seen before. He stared at it before turning away.
It was that feeling again, the one that was dragging him down. It felt like that cup meant something to him, but he couldn’t understand what it was. For him, it felt like he was waiting for “someone“. He looked down at the kitten. That “someone” was “someone” that he want to say “Welcome home” to. He stopped midway in the living room, looking over at the entrance door. A small smile came to his face again, that feeling fading away.
“Don’t worry. When you come back, this will always be your home to be welcomed in. You know where the key is at”
He said to no one in particular. He walked off to his bed room, leaving the room silent.
The entrance door opened, and then closed. A soft whisper spoke like wind.
“I’m home.”
